Ravenwood Packaging Introduces Mexico’s First Linerless Tray-Based Packaging for Fresh Produce
Ravenwood Packaging has teamed up with Troya Alimentos (for Aztec Fruits) to introduce Mexico’s first linerless, tray-based packaging for fresh produce. The initiative replaces plastic nets and traditional labels with sustainable, retail-ready packs, combining Ravenwood’s Nobac linerless applicator with Troya’s premium fruit and vegetable supply chain.
Multiple SKUs for Fresh Produce
Troya Alimentos has rolled out 20 SKUs, including avocados, tomatoes, citrus, mangos and seasonal produce, all packaged in carton trays with linerless labels.
The Ravenwood Nobac system streamlines labelling, handling up to 50 packs per minute for smaller trays and 20–25 packs per minute for larger ones, while remaining easy for staff to operate.
- Linerless labels are printed by Ravenwood-approved Reflex Labels in California
- Trays are TrayCycle™ fibre-based trays from Paper, Pulp & Film
Combining sustainability, practicality and shelf appeal, the trays and linerless labels together form a fully integrated, eco-friendly packaging solution.
Rapid Rollout & Market Expansion
Launched in January 2026 across 30 stores, the program is expanding quickly:
- Month 1: 50,000 packs
- Month 2: 75,000 packs across 50 stores
- Month 3 goal: 200,000 packs across 150 stores
Distribution covers Mexico City and extends from Tulum to Los Cabos, with plans to supply Amazon Fresh Mexico City following trial runs.
Sustainability at the Core
By replacing plastic nets and labels with tray-based packs and linerless labels, Troya Alimentos reduces waste and aligns with Mexico’s evolving regulations on single-use plastics.
Consumer & Retail Response
Early feedback has been highly positive. Customers are curious about the new packaging and retailers welcome the innovation, paving the way for wider adoption.
Rodolfo Mezze, Director at Troya Group said:
“Customers are curious about the concept – most of them have never seen it before.”
